I have had the pleasure of working with Dr Mader as part of the HBPC team at the VA. A week or so ago I introduced Dr Mader to our newest nurse. He paused at my doorway and as was so typical of him, spoke welcoming words. He told our nurse to "come upstairs anytime", to seek him out anytime she needed anything. Not too many doctors who are as busy as Scott was would offer these words so genuinely to new staff. I would however expect nothing less from him. He welcomed me the same way when I first came to HBPC. The last time I saw him was on our way out of the parking lot. He rolled down his window, wished me a good weekend and said he was off to go skiing hoping he would not meet with disaster. I will rmember him just like that. Smiling, happy and perpetually hopeful.
