Wish not so much to live long, as to live well...

Where do I start? Scott Mader was such a great guy! Pure and simple! I have never met a more kind and gentle man in my entire life. No offense to any of you guys out there! But Scott was just special. He spent EVERY moment of his life....LIVING! From rolling into our driveway, bed head and all, to pick up our kids on a Saturday morning to take them to Glendoveer for tennis, without a moment to spare; to convincing my husband to play in the annual men’s doubles tournament when both their schedules were so crazy busy, but they just had to get a couple matches in to try and beat last year’s record; to showing up at our kids events when it maybe wasn't convenient but he wasn’t going to miss them play or perform; to coming to our July 4th party and then heading back over to their neighborhood because he didn't want to miss that party either...he never stopped LIVING. Scott always went above and beyond FOR YOU! During the huge ice and rain storm several years ago, Scott called to ask if I needed any help. That's just what Dr Mader did. He was headed to the grocery store and wanted to know if he could drop anything by. I was the California girl who didnt know how to drive in the snow, whose husband was across the world on business and who was stuck in our house with a steep, frozen driveway. I didn't really need anything at the store but it was so kind of him to ask that I responded with "Well, how about a brownie mix, the kids would like some nice warm brownies!" There was silence on the other end of the phone and right there I knew that’s probably not what he was thinking I’d ask him to bring over! But sure enough, shortly after we hung up, there he was at the top of the snowy, icy hill with a box of brownies. It’s just the way he was wired! My kids used to roll their eyes at me when I talked about how short life really is and the importance of having no regrets. But I know they would all agree that Dr. Mader was a living example of that. To me, the quote “Wish not so much to live long, as to live well” pretty much sums up Scott’s life. I am confident he had no regrets. But God must have felt his work was done. He touched our family's lives and for that I feel truly blessed. We can only hope to learn from his kind, generous, humorous, compassionate and courageous life and to ‘live well’ from here forward. I know there was a platter of warm brownies waiting for Scott when he arrived in Heaven. I requested them myself! So long Scott. You will be so missed, but never forgotten. The Mooney Family
