A special person

Scott was a rare human being—a brilliant scientist and advocate for seniors; and a perpetual optimist. He was a dear friend, mentor and astute sounding board. I first met Scott when he was a second year geriatrics fellow at UCLA and I was a one-year fellow. Here was a physician who was as comfortable talking about clipping patients’ toenails or treating a cerumen impaction as he was discussing the basic mechanisms of orthostatic hypotension. He never changed over the years—he was at one moment the country doc making home visits in the Program at Home, the next moment the basic scientist hunched over the lab bench. Over the years I enjoyed our long lunches and brainstorming of ideas about the future of geriatrics. He was always inspirational. Thanks Scott for being you!
