30 Years Too Short

Scott knew more about the challenges of older people than anyone I've ever met. He used that knowledge not only in his work, but also to help others. Like my Dad. Scott took it upon himself to check in with him regularly over ten years as he coped with my mother's Alzheimers. He was a lifeline during a lonely time.
So the geriatric specialist doesn't get to be geriatric. Is this fair?
We had sort of interlinked weddings and we were lucky enough to celebrate our 30ths together last September at Drakesbad. Inbetween, fiddle jamming with the Pattison boys, conversation-packed rubbers of Bridge, a holiday in France, another to Falling Waters, waffles with normal coffee and countless hours of good conversation. And facing his illness with courage, calm and a determination to make the most of every opportunity, he showed us how it is done best.
Truly a remarkable man, he'll be missed always.
