a truly complete man

I admired Scott for many, many years at the VA - fiercely intelligent, able to be critical without being unkind, enthusiastic and optimistic (even in the face of serious illness), reliable and responsible (he actually read all the MSC reports before the meeting!). So it was a wonderful synchronicity that my father needed a VA provider at the point that Scott returned from sabbatical in Europe and was looking to fill his panel. I have to admit that Scott was always late for his appointments with Dad, but he was always worth waiting for. He was late for the same reasons that he was such a good physician: each patient deserved his full attention and time regardless of what the schedule said, and however long it took to convey to him what the patient was dealing with was how long he wanted to stay. When Dad was dying last year, Scott was supportive and thoughtful, and I am comforted that Scott had the same support and kindness at this sad time. In a world of increasing negativity, Scott was a beacon of light. His life priorities were in order as he knew that family, friends, and those in need were what mattered. He seemed "complete", and we can all learn from his example. My thoughts and prayers go to his family, and I hope these messages help you understand what your husband and father meant to those you've never met who respected and admired him.
